Las Vegas, April 11, 2024
Orenthal James Simpson, also known as O.J. Simpson, has died at the age of 75. The former NFL star, who was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman in 1995, died at a Las Vegas hospital, according to ABC News.
Simpson's death comes just weeks after he was released from prison after serving nine years for a botched robbery attempt in 2007. The high-profile trial and his subsequent acquittal divided the nation and fueled intense media coverage.
Simpson rose to fame as a running back for the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers in the 1970s and 1980s. After retiring from football, he became a successful broadcaster and actor, appearing in popular films such as "The Towering Inferno" and "Naked Gun."
Simpson's life took a dramatic turn in 1994 when he was charged with the murders of Brown Simpson and Goldman. The trial, which lasted over a year, captivated the nation and was widely televised. Simpson was ultimately acquitted by a jury, but his reputation was irrevocably damaged.
In 2007, Simpson was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas. He was released from prison in 2017 and had been living in Florida until his death.
