Poirier Avenges Loss, Stops McGregor in Second Round

Las Vegas, Nevada - July 10, 2021

In a highly anticipated rematch, Dustin Poirier defeated Conor McGregor by TKO in the second round of their UFC 264 main event. The fight was stopped by the doctor at 5:00 of the second round after McGregor suffered a broken leg.

This was the third fight between the two fighters, with Poirier now holding a 2-1 record. McGregor won the first fight by knockout in 2014, while Poirier won the second fight by knockout in January 2021.

The fight started with both fighters exchanging strikes in the center of the octagon. Poirier landed several hard leg kicks early on, which seemed to bother McGregor. Poirier also landed a takedown in the first round, but McGregor was able to get back to his feet quickly.

In the second round, Poirier continued to attack McGregor's legs with kicks. He also landed a few punches and elbows that seemed to hurt McGregor. With about a minute remaining in the round, McGregor attempted a kick, but Poirier checked it and McGregor's leg snapped. The fight was immediately stopped and Poirier was declared the winner by TKO.

This was a significant victory for Poirier, who is now considered one of the best fighters in the UFC. He is now in line for a title shot against the winner of the Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington fight.
